Ghent, Belgium
Our final stop on our trip was in Ghent, Belgium. We had heard about Brussells not being all its cracked up to be, and that Brugges is cool, but very busy, so we chose neither, settling on Ghent. Boy were we happy with our choice when we got to our hotel and swore we were [...]

Ferry to Dunkirk and Driving on the Mainland
We started our roadtrip by waking up early and making our way across England to catch the ferry from Dover, England to Dunkirk, France. We arrived to the area a little bit early so we decided to take a look around at the White Cliffs of Dover. We were a little worried that we would [...]

Reflection on Past 6 Months
So I (Sheila) thought I would write a short (or long depending on how fast I write on the last leg of this train journey) reflection blog about the past 6 months + 9 days here in the UK. Some of the best times in my life have taken place in this short time period [...]

Greenwich Trip
Most people have heard of Greenwich and maybe even pronounce the ‘w’ in the word like we used to. Here, it’s pronounced ‘Gren-ich.’ We’ve wanted to visit all year since we have heard great things about the town and its attractions. We waited for and found the perfect spring day last weekend. We hopped on [...]

Skiing in Garmisch
Let’s just say that the bear hat helped out in Garmisch. I think the average temperature there was about -7 Celsius or 17 degrees Fahrenheit. Nonetheless, we were amazed at the beauty and immenseness of the Alps. We agreed the views from the top of the Zugspitze, the tallest mountain in Germany at 9720 feet, were on the [...]

Small Town Germany
After surviving a nuclear disaster in Munich over New Year’s, we successfully rented a car and conquered semi-blizzard-like conditions (real Midwestern-like conditions, not “treacherous” British conditions of 2 inches) getting to Garmisch for our skiing adventure. Garmisch is actually a combination of two towns on the edge of the Alps and is thus called Garmisch-Partenkirchen. [...]

New Years in Munich
We made the train journey on New Year’s Eve towards Munich, or “Munchkin” if you are Sheila and cannot pronounce Meunchen (German for Munich). The countryside was beautiful with the Alps off to the south the whole way. Being new years eve we dropped our stuff at the hotel and immediately went to explore the [...]

More Salzburg
Our 2nd day in Salzburg involved traveling to many of the same places we did the day before except seeing them during the daytime, dodging a few more tourists along the way, and touring places more in-depth. Our first stop was buying delicious pastries and a giant apple strudel pretzel from the markets. We also [...]

Salzburg
The next day we rushed to catch the 11:20 train to Salzburg. The ticket line was quite long, as was the one checking out of the hotel. Nonetheless, we ran and made our train. The 2.5 hour train was a bit annoying with loud foreigners playing UNO and Italians speaking at the top of their [...]

A slow day in Vienna
Our final day in Vienna was not as eventful as the day before since Sheila didn’t sleep very well the night before due to a stomach ache (may have been caused by drinking tap water from hotel) and Henry got a strange headache later in the day (may have been caused by dehydration). But all [...]
